GENERAL INFORMATION

An endowed scholarship program is a tax-deductible, non-refundable, contribution to the St. John-Endicott Schools' Foundation for the purpose of using the earnings from the principal of the contribution for distribution as scholarship awards.  The St. John-Endicott Schools' Foundation may be named as a beneficiary in wills and insurance policies or receive gifts of property.

Endowments are controlled by the Board of Trustees, made up of long-time residents from both the Endicott and St. John communities.  This Board oversees all endowed funds which are managed by our partner foundation, INNOVIA.  St. John-Endicott Schools' Foundation has over $1,004,000 in principal investments at Innovia Foundation  (formerly known as Inland Northwest Community Foundation).

Questions?

WHAT IS Innovia? Innovia Foundation helps nonprofit organizations like ours throughout the Inland Northwest to establish endowments so that they might better meet their current and long-term funding needs.  They have been in existence since 1974 and are the stewards of over $100 million dollars in 993 charitable funds.

CAN THE DONOR DEFINE THE USE OF THESE CONTRIBUTED FUNDS?  Yes.  Understanding that the funds contributed are for scholarships, we will work with the donor to establish their criteria to be met by the students in order to apply for their scholarship.

CAN ADDITIONAL CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE ENDOWMENT BE MADE?  Yes.  Any future contributions to the endowment will be tax-deductible by the donor and the earnings legally restricted according to the terms of the endowment agreement.

DO EARNINGS FROM THE ENDOWMENT NEED TO BE AWARDED IMMEDIATELY?  No.  It is necessary to build the principal of the endowment to $10,000 within a ten year period prior to any scholarship being awarded.  This can be built with a minimum donation of $1,000 per year over the ten year period.  Then, when the criteria has been established, scholarships will be awarded in the name of the endowment.

HOW DO YOU GET AN ENDOWMENT STARTED?  Simply contact any of our Board of Trustees or our chapter manager.  We have the forms necessary to complete the establishment of the endowment program.  We welcome your inquiries.
